Escondido, California

Meaning "hidden" in Spanish, Escondido is a city north of San Diego located in a shallow valley surrounded by rocky hills. Founded in 1888, Escondido is also one of the oldest cities in San Diego County. Centered on Grand Avenue, downtown Escondido has become more active in the past few years with the introduction of restaurants, cafes, and galleries to the area. A branch of the Mingei International Museum has recently opened on Grand and displays handcrafts from around the world. Two highways serve residents of Escondido: Route 78 and Interstate 15. There is also a light rail service called the Sprinter, which links Escondido to Oceanside along a 22-mile stretch of the San Diego Northern Railroad.

Escondido residents make use of the North County Regional Center located on 325 South Melrose in Vista. This court has a venue servicing most of Northern San Diego County and hears various family law cases.
