A community in San Diego founded in 1869, La Mesa was officially incorporated on February 16, 1912. The biggest event in La Mesa is their Oktoberfest which is held at the beginning of October each year. Meaning "the plateu" in Spanish, La Mesa is part of Mission San Diego de Alcala and was used by Spanish Missionaries in its early history. There are two school districts operating in La Mesa. There is the La Mesa-Spring Valley District and the Grossmont District. La Mesa is also home to the Back to the 50's Car show which is an annual summer event.

Those that reside in La Mesa use the Family Court on 1555 Sixth Ave and the Madge Bradley on 1409 Fourth Ave. for their family law needs. These courthouses, located in downtown San Diego hear divorce and domestic violence cases, among other family law cases.
